2009-10-02: okay now it's official. iboga records will release a compilation by john 00 fleming in october, and my new song "fragments" made its way to the tracklist. many thanks to peter papiewski .. he contributed a beautiful piano line played on a concert grand. btw if you like classical music go listen to his recordings at soundclick (warm regards from a steinway D-274)
so the idea was to combine a classical grand piano with my type of dance music. i still ended up using compression on the piano so much that any classical mastering engineer would take a serious look at my compressor settings.... but, listen for yourself and spread the feedback... :)
the compilation is titled "set: 11 - frequent itinerant". it's a double CD and digital downloads will be available in november 2009-09-08: i'm looking forward to a new release - and on a new label too. should be fun :) more info to come.. 2009-03-25: yesterday i found this sweet new melody and thought of a variation with a guitar in the background, so today i packed my recording things and went to record a few notes in an absolutely beautiful place:

then of course one of my strings broke because i had to tune the guitar 3 half-tones UP, because ... of a forgotten capo at home. with computers on the other hand, if anything goes wrong there you usually just restart the PC and be done with it. in the analogue world you have to go to a shop and buy new strings and tune and do all the set-up and soundchecks again. but anyway it's great fun, i'll go there again and redo the whole thing.
fraunhofer IIS is the best place to work at !!!
ps: yes, the beer on the picture is delicious dark kapuziner hefeweizen, "gebraut nach dem bayrischen reinheitsgebot" ;) 2009-03-08:
 | bass! i fell in love with it.... this fender jazz bass you see below i borrowed from the lab at fraunhofer and it was fascinating, so bought this acoustic one. it's great, i can complement synth basslines with sounds that i make with my hand. feels interesting to produce frequencies as low as 40 Hz with just some finger picking |
2009-01-31:
...stereo?? :D 2009-01-19:
..bass? 2008-11-12: two mattresses on the wall, pillows, blankets, the floor covered with clothes, record bags and all kinds of things around. looks weird but .. great sound to record a guitar! 2008-10-26: i think the longer i hold off with an update here the more i'm expected to write once i finally do so. also i wanted to wait until i have something nice to tell.
recently i've been improving my studio room, which basicly means that my living room gets some acoustic treatment. at work they've been designing and building the finest recording and listening rooms, so how can i possibly produce music here on dynaudio bm6a's in my living room with 1.316 s reverberation time at 400 Hz ?
no question there had to change something. one part was to stuff up the room with absorption foam and resonators, the other part was getting some diffusers inside to scatter the reflecting sound waves. as for diffusers, they're so expensive that i had decided to get up and find out how to build these myself. so, and here comes the reason why i love computers so much: www.oliverprime.com/prd.php .. instead of pen & paper which would take ages?, use html & php, press a button and everything's done. ok, maybe cutting up all the pieces still takes some time... but, it's fun, and it looks great with the lamps around. certainly an eye-catcher.
..what? the guy's doin root diffusers? i want music!
oh yea right, music. my last sign of life was the remix of vibrasphere's "autumn lights" on joof recordings back in april (yes, 2008). my radio show i had to put on hold. that's why i had to break my promise in the last entry here mentioning a podcast.
at work there're a lot of musicians. one of them works with a complete philharmonic orchestra. when i heard that my jaw went like AAAA..kay .. and i started dreaming about being klagenfurt's mozart. well, there will be meetings and plans and i very much look forward to use all the high-end equipment available there. i've been trying out some ambient productions with piano dude peter papiewski as well. all very exciting.
good, lets see. any gigs?
yep, check out the events page :)
...and there'll be surely more in 2009. 2007-12-13: i promise to add an aromatherapy podcast, soon ... 2007-10-22: music recording heaven:

big thanks to the folks at fraunhofer IIS for providing me their awesome studio + equipment. that ball thingy you see there is a KFM 360 ;) and the one who developed it works just a couple of offices away from mine.. :)
2007-06-17: me in the london, part I: 2007-06-07: cat in the box, part III: 2007-04-01: just discovered digital FM synthesis.. wow.. i'm amazed, this seems to be a great alternative to the classical additive methods .. especially because of the many fine tuning possibilities
now how to automate all those harmonic frequency amplitudes and phases?? :) 2007-03-08: more pictures. this time around: 64 channel surround and a 1 GHz DSP-warmed peppermint candy ;-)
2007-02-20: | look what i found in a store the other day. a washing agent named after my radio show. mmmmm wait, or was it the other way round? |
2007-02-14: how much i enjoy trentemøller's "into the trees" these days ... what a beautiful synergy of traditional and electronic instruments. for anyone who hasn't heard of his latest album "the last resort", here's a useful link with samples: http://www.juno.co.uk/... 2007-02-10: hello website. i've been a little behind with my productions lately, but what i got in the line right now makes me SHIVER.... it's 4:30 in the morning and i've just completed the last minutes of a new song - and i cannot leaaaaaaveeeee iiittt.....
together with a really interesting remix request from canada, the year starts off quite well!
